A long-term resident of Newtown, Chris is the oldest of two children born to Teri and Gary LaRocque, formerly of Newtown. Chris’ sister, Ashley, is a 2005 graduate of Newtown High School and recent graduate of UNC Wilmington.
Over the course of his time in Newtown, Chris has become a distinguished member of the community through his involvement in local organizations and he has received numerous awards because of it. In 1998 Chris received his Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America and continued his Scouting through earning both Bronze and Gold Palms above and beyond the Eagle rank. In 2003 Chris was honored with the Secretary of the State’s Student Citizenship Award, a Newtown Youth and Family Services Outstanding Youth Award, and a President’s Scholarship from Newtown High School for his role as the President of the Student Body.
While at Newtown High School Chris also served on the Executive Council of the National Honor Society and was an Academic All-State basketball player in his senior year, culminating in being honored with the Howard S. DeGroat Sports Award for outstanding sportsmanship and leadership on the court. Chris was also a member of the Varsity Baseball and Golf teams while at Newtown.
After graduating from the Newtown school system, Chris attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and majored in International Business. Chris had the opportunity while at GWU to study abroad in both Paris, France at the prestigious Institut D’Etudes Politiques de Paris and in New South Wales, Australia for his entire junior year, and travelled to twenty countries.
While at GWU Chris served on numerous student committees and was recognized as a standout student leader among his peers. He served as a representative to incoming students, was a mentor to freshmen business students, and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. His four years culminated with his being selected as the student speaker at the School of Business Commencement Ceremony.
Upon graduating from GWU, Chris accepted a job with Deloitte Consulting in their Washington, D.C. office. He traveled the country working on process improvement and strategy engagements with the Department of Defense. One of his most exciting projects enabled him to create a presentation for the Secretary of the Navy.
After nearly a year and a half with Deloitte Consulting, Chris decided to return to Newtown, wishing to improve the community he loves so much. He is now a member of the Legislative Council in Newtown, having received more votes than any other candidate. Chris serves on the Education, Finance, and Public Works committees and is focused on smart spending, strong education, and enhancing communication with citizens.
Chris currently works for the Danbury Whalers Minor League Hockey Team as the Vice President of Business Operations and is working on completing his Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Trinity College.
